July 4 ... Independence Day is the symbolic birthday of Advocacy to Control Big Brother (ACBB). Why July 4th? Because the reason for ACBB to exist is for the everyday citizen to take back control of their Private Information and then symbolically declare Independence from the information mongers of the world. And why Big Brother? ... George Orwell's classic science fiction story of Big Brother run amuck, "1984" was so prophetic it has entered our language, culture, and fears. The basic concepts of this story have become so common, there is a new term in our languages of the world ... the Orwellian Society. If you were one of the few people not required to read this in High School, it is a read that should not be missed. The moral of the story is not something a young person can relate too, but as an adult you should be able to correlate the moralistic portion of the story to our current world. The story laid forth the idea that "Absolute Information is Absolute Power and Absolute Power Corrupts" this has been the fear of many people and they have adopted the words "Big Brother" from the text to be synonymous with the collection of information regarding our individuality. Science Fiction is said to precede reality. Who would have thought we could get video and pictures in our hands via mobile technologies, had it not been for Dick Tracy. Who'd have thought we would be exploring space had it not been for H.G. Wells' 1899 science fiction? The founder of our organization believes, just like many of the science fiction stories of our past, Orwell's Big Brother is upon us; yet another science fiction preceding reality. Thus as the founder of this organization looked at a calendar, and realized that 2005 would be 21 years past the prophetic date of Mr. Orwell's vision, and the symbolism of "being of age" at 21 was just too coincidental. Combining these two calendars events, and it is declared ... Advocacy to Control Big Brother shall have a birth date of July 4, 2005, to advocate the independence from the now fully mature Big Brother.
